Treats for Your Sweet in the East
It’s that time of year again for all things lovey-dovey, heart-shaped, and covered in chocolate. Whether you’re picking up treats for your sweetheart, goodies for your girlfriends, or something special for yourself (you deserve it!) there’s no need to venture far from the east end to get your sugar fix. While you might be cutting it close for custom orders, we’ve rounded up a group of bakeshops that will help ensure your Valentine’s Day is your sweetest one yet.
Bobbette & Belle, 1121 Queen Street East
If you’re looking for macarons for your main squeeze, look no further than Bobbette & Belle. Stunning macarons in classic flavours like pistachio and salted caramel are in good company with unique bites like cassis and heavenly cream. The beautiful shop also serves cupcakes (for your cupcake!), cookies and other confectionaries.
Dufflet Beach, 1917 Queen Street East
Toronto’s Dufflet pastries have established a reputation for being some of the city’s finest. In addition to three retail shops, Dufflet can be found in over 500 restaurants and stores. If the way to your honey’s heart is through their stomach, opt for one of Dufflet’s mini cakes, which come in seasonal heart shapes and flavours like raspberry chocolate mousse. If you plan on sharing a treat with your friends (“Galentine’s” Day?) we suggest something sweet from their “Queen of Cake” collection.
Desmond & Beatrice, 388 Carlaw Avenue
If the apple of your eye actually prefers cookies, then head over to Desmond & Beatrice on Carlaw Avenue. With inventive cookie flavours like bacon chocolate chip, date night (they have potato chips and popcorn in them!) and a sparkly number not-so-romantically named “unicorn poop,” you’ll be sure to find something for your bae (so long as they have a sense of humour). Or, if you’re treating yourself this year, try the shop’s “Ex-Boyfriend Cookie” which features a re-imagined gingerbread man with a (hopefully figurative) voodoo hex.
