Cheers to 2016
Good or bad, it’s hard to argue that 2016 wasn’t a defining year for many of us. For us here at Streetcar, it was one of our busiest years to date. Before we break out the noisemakers and confetti to ring in 2017, it’s time to reflect on the year that was.
One of our buzziest projects this year was definitely The Broadview Hotel. This October, we announced the details regarding this exciting project, which is set to open this upcoming spring. We were warmed to watch the community come together for the grand unveiling of the facade and lighting of the exterior. As we head into the new year, The Broadview Hotel will continue to be a source of community and connection for the whole city, and we can’t wait to welcome you inside.
This year, we were also thrilled to help Crow’s Theatre find a new, permanent home in Leslieville. Streetcar Crowsnest will be a hub for entertainment and will be the first performing arts centre of its kind in the east. We also helped a family reunite with a piece from their past and preserve a family memory.
In addition to celebrating our own projects and partnerships, in 2016 we also shed some serious local love on our neighbours. On our blog, we featured many new east-end businesses we love and admire, including White Lily Diner, Hitch, Kids at Home, The Maple Leaf Tavern, Gerrard Street East, Tom & Sawyer, Wonder Pens, Sweat and Soda, BRIKA, Torq, Sweet Jesus, Good Neighbour, Little India, Belmonte Raw, Glen Stewart Ravine, BYOB Cocktail Emporium, Boxcar Social, Black Rooster Decor and KA Space. And we’ve barely scratched the surface! With so many new ventures opening this side of the DVP, we can’t wait to see what’s in store for Riverside, Leslieville, and The Beaches.
Our east end pride shined extra bright when dozens of our neighbours (and Streetcar!) were nominated and won several NOW Magazine Best of T.O. certificates. Once again we wanted to thank everyone who voted for us as Runner Up Best Condo Developers.
What else happened in 2016? We swung on rides at The EX, explored the ever-expanding murals of the East, welcomed The Big Carrot to the Streetcar family and sponsored the wildly popular Riverside Eats and Beats Festival. Oh! And we moved offices to the ground floor at The Carlaw. Whew!
What a whirlwind! We can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2017.
