The Broadview Hotel Media Sneak Peek
Last week, we invited some friends and community members to get a glimpse into what we’ve been working on behind-the-scenes at The Broadview Hotel. As many of you are well aware, Streetcar purchased the property a few years ago, and have since been restoring it. While we were always open about our vision of a cultural hub for the east, we haven’t said too much in terms of the details—until now!
While the hotel itself won’t soft open until June, we wanted to offer a sneak peek into what’s to come (because let’s face it, we’re so excited about this project). Attendees of our media preview last Thursday were invited to join us at Streetcar’s head office to witness the unveiling of many of the design elements of the hotel through renderings, samples, and a virtual reality tour.
Guests had the chance to meet some of the hotel team while sipping signature “Dingman’s Delight” gin cucumber cocktails mixed by the head bartender of Gare de l’Est, the soon-to-be-opened brasserie inside Streetcar’s Crowsnest. And, since the preview was curated to offer a taste of everything, Chef John Sinopoli served up a selection of rooftop bar-inspired dishes. Sinopoli will be the Executive Chef at The Civic, the hotel’s 80-seat ground-floor restaurant. You may know Chef John from other east-end staples including Ascari Enoteca and Hi-Lo.
Also on display was a selection of interior design elements, including wallpaper and fabric selections and colour palettes. We also had one of our mini-bars and entertainment consoles to show off, which will be a staple in each guest room. Each console includes a vinyl record player and a selection of records—not to mention a fully stocked bar with all kinds of fun and locally sourced amenities.
While we’ve launched many buildings before, we wanted to try something special for this unique project to really help everyone envision what we’re seeing for the hotel. That’s why we teamed up with Norm Li and Design Agency to offer a fully immersive virtual reality experience. Attendees were invited to view (and explore) renderings of the hotel in VR. “Stop it with this patio!” we overheard one Toronto blogger say in excitement.
The takeaways were curated by local coolhunter Good Neighbour, who we’re proud to announce will be The Broadview’s style partner and will help curate all staff uniforms as well as in-room amenities. Come home to fun, hand-picked goodies, including Before Bed spray from Graydon Skincare, bean-to-bar artisan chocolate from Soul Chocolate, organic Ontario beer from Beau’s Brewery, and root veggie chips from The Broadview Kitchen.
